Tribute to Stephanie Kelly

Apr 24, 2026 | Blog

Over the past month, we have been reflecting on the life and leadership of our longtime Executive Director, Stephanie Kelly, who passed away on March 23, 2026.

For nearly two decades, Stephanie shaped The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands into a leading voice in suicide prevention and mental health support. Under her leadership, the organization experienced tremendous growth – expanding programs in grief support, community education, senior outreach, and crisis response, while helping guide the transition to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Her work brought critical resources to more people than ever before.

Stephanie was widely respected across the Commonwealth and beyond, serving in leadership roles with the Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention and lending her voice to public conversations through speaking engagements and media. Yet what defined her most was not recognition, but how she showed up every day with calm, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to others.

She built not only programs, but relationships. She was deeply present in the community – connecting with partners, advocating for those at risk, and supporting colleagues with genuine care and thoughtfulness. To many, she was more than a leader; she was a steady presence, a trusted partner, and a friend.

Stephanie’s legacy lives on in the work she championed and in the countless lives she touched. We are honored to carry her vision forward.
